How do I care for my new sod?
Water, fertilizer and mowing are all essential to properly caring for your new lawn. Visit the Alabama Cooperative Extension Systems’ ‘Guide for Home Lawn Maintenance’ for the best information on caring for your sod.
How many pieces of sod are on a pallet?
Approximately 168 pieces make up a pallet. Each piece measures 16 by 24 inches.
When is the best time of year to purchase and install sod?
Sod can be purchased and installed any time of year. There is no “right” season needed for sod installation.
How does sodding compare to seeding?
Sodding your lawn requires much less maintenance and effort than seeding. Sod produces an instant lawn ready for use, whereas seeding requires months and sometimes years of intensive management and nurturing to produce a full healthy lawn. Sodding can also be completed at any time of the year while seeding must be done during the appropriate time to ensure establishment.
Is sod good for the environment?
Sod is great for the environment. It helps reduce erosion and water pollution and provides immediate green space.
